THE CONCEPT

A curation and analysis of fantastic works for our learning, inspiration and stimulation.

Amidst the complexity great minds have found ingenious ways of grasping need, idea, opportunity and logic to create something special.

We want to learn from them. We want to be inspired by them. We want to enrich our perspective through theirs.

We curate creations that stand out to us as exceptionally well done. Learn what we understand as exceptionally well done here.

As we live, we learn. And as we learn, we can translate those learnings into creations. As society we live off of and with the creations of each other. In our age of superfluity we have reached a point where our creations truly exceed what we need and have become detrimental not only to the human experience but to the system in which we life.

We believe in the power of creation. But we belief we deserve fantastic creations.

WHAT WE CURATE

We look for great creations across four categories

The small

You can carry it.

The big

You can't carry it.

The complex

You probably can't, but even if, picking it up would break it.

The digital

You can click it.

What are exceptionally well done creations?

01

NEW!

THE NEED

The underlying problems a creation solves or the basis with which a new value creation resonates. Traditionally, this has been very narrowly focused on the need of the direct target audience. Today, however, creations need to meet the needs of the target audience, while balancing the needs of all other stakeholder too.

  • direct target audience need

  • wider stakeholder need consideration — social & ecological

THE IDEA

02

The originality in seeing something others haven't yet seen.

THE LOGIC

03

The relations between all aspects of the creation defining the holistic nature of the creation. This attribute reflects two notions:

  • thoroughness of the design: is something thoroughly thought through with all its aspects? (At this level, the thoroughness solely focuses on the visual and tangible design — not the thoroughness in realizing the design. That is considered in the process).

  • the intentionality of the design: are all elements serving a clear purpose?

THE ORGANIC FORM

04

Nature has a way of perfecting its creations through evolution. Those that persist are forms that work, without unnecessary fuzz or artificial forms. In exceptionally well done solutions, we are looking for those forms that appear fluid, organic and complete.

THE PROCESS

05

A great solution only comes to life through its creation. Designs themselves can be exceptional in some ways regardless of their realization. But exceptionally well done designs take the realization into consideration. As form is said to follow function, so do we believe that form is supposed to enable optimal production.

THE CHARACTER

06

Designing in itself is not a very human act. Nature is arguably the greatest designer from whom we attempt to learn through discovery and methods such as biomimicry. Animals too design tools for their needs. What differentiates our designs from those of natures is the length to which they are intricately entangled in our social constructs. They communicate what we believe, what we value, and how we live. In that, we are looking for designs that reflect that human nature in exhibiting character.
